Dogtooth

What do I even say about this film... HOLY CRAP!

Sorry... just finished the movie and my mind is still racing.

Anyway, this 2009 Greek film just received the Academy Award nomination for the Best Foreign Language Film. Portraying a husband and wife who have a VERY unique way of sheltering their children, this movie can only be described as... HOLY CRAP!

Yep, I guess I am at a loss for words. You'll just need to watch Dogtooth for yourself.

On a side note, this amazing film was brought to my attention by our esteemed member, Lady Bella who has once again opened the club's eyes to another genius piece of film. Viva Lady Bella!

Happy New Year FFCers!

2011 is going to be a hallmark year for the Foreign Film Club, I just know it. First, this is going to be the year that FFC finally has a field trip to go see a foreign film in the theatre and talk about it after. I also have a feeling that this will be the year we explore some new countries. For example:

1) China, or more specifically the city of Canton, which has the incredible film "Kung Fu Hustle" with which to enlighten us or "Ip Man" to amaze us.

2) Bantu in southern Africa, in which the amazing film "Tsotsi" is filmed.

3) The Netherlands where we can explore the world of "Ben X"

4) Or how about 12th century Asia, which is the setting for the most incredible film you will ever see, "Mongol".

5) We could explore Portugal with "Central Station"

6) Or hit Romania with one of my favorites, "4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days"

Finally, this will be the year that the FFC logo, designed by our very own Nate Finden, will become official.

Again Happy New Year to everyone and thanks for making this an awesome club!!!!!

By Request

At the last FFC hosted by the Bowers, we started discussing some of our favorite movies (foreign and American). The next day I got an email request to send a list of some of the movies we were gushing over. I couldn't remember everything, so I thought I would just provide a list of some of my 5 star movies. This is a little different than the list below as I did not exclude American movies this time.

As I said, these are all movies that I rated 5 stars, however they may not all be appropriate for some viewers. If you have any questions about whether you can "handle" a movie on the list, let me know.

Finally, while all these are my "favorites" I have highlighted a few movies that really rocked my world.

"Let the Right One In" coming to America

Just saw a commercial for "Let Me In". Looks like "Let The Right One In" is being remade by Hollywood.
